New Chief Medical Officer Named at Lovelace Health Plan

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – Wayne M. Casper, MD has been named the new Chief Medical Officer for Lovelace Health Plan.

Prior to joining Lovelace Health Plan, Dr. Casper served as the CEO/CMO for Schaller/Anderson, which is part of the Aetna Medicaid family of companies. His duties include oversight of a health plan serving the needs of the aged, blind, and disabled population.

Dr. Casper also served as Regional Medical Director for Optum Health, a division of United Healthcare. He was also the Texas State Medical Director for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas. Prior to Blue Cross, Dr. Casper served as an independent consultant for risk-based contracts to physician groups across the country.

Dr. Casper’s clinical practice experience included a hospital-based practice at the Harvard University teaching hospital, New England Deaconess, where he was an instructor in the Department of Medicine and Medical Director for the hospital’s internal medicine practice.

Dr. Casper received his medical degree from Texas A&M University College of Medicine in College Station, Texas. He completed his residency at New England Deaconess Hospital in Boston. He is board certified in Internal Medicine.
