Stop Tobacco for Optimal Prevention

Quitting isn’t easy, but we’re here to help you through the process. Lovelace Health Plan’s Stop Tobacco for Optimal Prevention (S.T.O.P.) program offers individual phone counseling sessions at no charge to members. If you prefer a group setting rather than phone counseling, we’ll refer you to multi-session classes in your area (a co-payment may be required). You phone sessions will:

  • Help you set up a quit plan
  • Educate you about what to expect in the way of possible physical and emotional symptoms
  • Discuss available medication, or “quit aids”
  • Provide guidance in setting up a support system
  • Offer strategies to help you remain tobacco free

Our self-help packet includes tips to help you prepare to quit, tips for just before you quit, tips for the day you stop, tips to help you cope with the urge to use tobacco and tips for dealing with a slip or relapse into the habit.

We applaud you for choosing to live a healthier, tobacco-free life!

If you’re interested in stopping the use of tobacco products, take your first step by calling the S.T.O.P program to speak with a trained healthcare professional. We’ll help you decide whether now is a good time for you to quit. If you’re ready, a registered nurse will help you set up a personalized plan for quitting. Medicine to help with the cravings may also be available.
